New Contract, Continuing Forward

I was happy to attend the London Transit Commission meeting Wednesday night and watch as the commissioners voted to ratify the contract that we have worked so diligently on these past 9 months. ATU 741 members ratified the contract on Monday. November 28th.

I want to thank everyone on the Negotiation Team for their dedication and hard work and Brother Robin West, International Vice President for his guidance and wise counsel.

During the ratification meeting on Monday, we met with members throughout the day who read through changes to the contract, asked questions and engaged in conversation with members of the Executive.

As I sat with members throughout the day I was proud to see each member of the Executive Board: Vice President Ian Davies, Financial Secretary Mike Gillingwater, Operations Rep Merv Black, Operations Rep Mike Gauthier and Fleet and Facility Rep Paul Nugent connecting with members, answering questions, concerns and sharing their knowledge of the contract. It was an awesome moment to see a union working. The format was different but worked well as we were able to speak with groups of members and even one-on-one.

Special thanks also to retired members Ferguson Murdoch and Robert Campbell who spent a very long day at the ballot box.

Congratulations everyone on a new contract. All the best to everyone this Christmas and holiday season.
